At Children’s House Montessori, a child’s third year of school is considered Montessori kindergarten. Children in this program are called Pea Pods, and are expected to stay for a full day of school five days a week.
During this year, the Pea Pods develop deep friendships with their peers. They learn and display leadership qualities every day both at school and home. The Pea Pods take pride in their abilities, and over time demonstrate new levels of maturity. The year is marked by the mastery of curriculum materials, and most importantly, a personal awareness of their own strengths and confidence.
Pea Pods are independent, confident, self-reliant, responsible for their own work choices, display emotional maturity and a willingness to attempt new challenges. They develop calm and considerate behavior for life in school and at home. Most of all, each child is a respected and encouraged learner. The small, intimate nature of the group supports an ideal learning experience for each child.
The Pea Pods also enjoy extra time for outdoor nature study, care of the gardens, art activities relating to their studies, and opportunities for both extended, uninterrupted work inside and play time outside.
In short, Pea Pods are the leaders of the school. They embrace this year wholeheartedly! Many students transition directly to first grade in both public and independent schools. This crucial year of your child’s development and individual growth is a gift you give your child, for life.
